TEASys – News

Matthias Bauer and Angelika Zirker recently published “Understanding  
(Through) Annotations: Introductory Remarks[1].” The article serves as  
introduction for a special issue of /Connotations – A Journal Critical  
Debate, /which is based on papers given at the 15th International  
/Connotations/ Symposium, July 28 – August 1, 2019.

Despite the Corona crisis, the Tübingen Annotating Literature student  
groups will continue to meet (online) during the summer term. For more  
information on how you can participate, see here[2].

The Annotated Web Edition Directory[3] is looking forward to your  
suggestions. We are always on the look-out for new entries to add to  
the list. Feel free to recommend literary digital editions that  
include explanatory annotation (of the social or the editorial kind),  
web platforms, tools and applications that enable the user to  
(collaboratively) annotate texts. Please use the corresponding form on  
our webpage. We thank you for your help.
Our latest additions to the Directory are Elizabethandrama.org[4] and  
Shakespeare Navigators[5].

CALLS FOR PAPERS/UPCOMING EVENTS

PLEASE NOTE THAT, DUE TO THE CURRENT CORONA CRISIS, IT IS POSSIBLE  
THAT MANY OF THESE EVENTS WILL BE POSTPONED OR CANCELLED. WE WILL KEEP  
YOU UPDATED ON ANY CHANGES.

The 2nd workshop on Structuring and Understanding of Multimedia  
heritAge Contents[6] will take place on October 12 or 15, 2020 in  
Seattle. Due to the Corona crisis, this event will possibly be held as  
a virtual workshop. The deadline is JUNE 29, 2020.

Call for papers for the /Journal of Interactive Technology and  
Pedagogy/[7] (JITP): the journal accepts submissions on any topic  
within the field.

Call for papers for the 5th Workshop on Visualization for the Digital  
Humanities, (VIS4DH[8]), under the theme of “Re-Thinking, Re-Defining,  
Re-Imagining Data”. The workshop will be part of IEEE VIS 2020  
conference. Paper submissions should be in PDF format following the  
conference style template[9]. DEADLINE for papers is JULY 10, 2020,  
and should be submitted via EasyChair[10].

Call for papers for the Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural  
Language Processing on November 19, 2020. All submissions must be  
written in English and should follow the EMNLP 2020 formatting  
requirements[11]. Submission can be uploaded using the Softconf START  
conference management system[12]. DEADLINE for submissions is AUGUST  
15, 2020. You can still sign up for the 1ST WORKSHOP ON SCHOLARLY  
DOCUMENT PROCESSING (SDP 2020) to be held in conjunction with the 2020  
EMNLP Conference. The workshop will be held VIRTUALLY.

Submissions for the 8th DHd conference[13] “Kulturen des digitalen  
Gedächtnisses” (March 15-19, 2021, Potsdam, Germany) are due SEPTEMBER  
30, 2020.

Jan Horstmann and Frank Fischer are requesting submissions for the  
special volume „Digitale Verfahren in der Literaturwissenschaft“ in  
the open access journal /Textpraxis. Digitales Journal für  
Philologie/[14]. The deadline is DECEMBER 31, 2020.

  UPDATES

The Helsinki Digital Humanities Hackathon[15] is postponed till autumn  
2020, register your interest to keep informed.

The Digital Humanities Austria Conference[16] (originally scheduled  
for September 23-25, 2020) has been postponed to April, 14-16, 2021.  
The deadline for submissions is OCTOBER 10, 2020.

EADH regretfully announces the cancellation of EADH2020 CONFERENCE,  
which was scheduled for SEPTEMBER 22-25, 2020.

The deadline for submissions for the 3rd workshop InfDH 2020: Methoden  
und Anwendungen der Computational Humanities[17] has been extended  
until JUNE 30, 2020. The workshop will either be held online or during  
the INFORMATIK 2020[18] conference (October 10, 2020, Karlsruhe,  
Germany).

SPRING/SUMMER SCHOOLS

The European Summer University in Digital Humanities[19] (Leipzig,  
Germany) has been postponed to AUGUST 3-13, 2021.
The DHSI 2020[20] will go online! Please visit the DHSI 2020 Online  
Edition page where you will find all conference details, schedules,  
and registration links.

JOBS/SCHOLARSHIPS/GRANTS

The TEI Consortium seeks nominations for a TEI-C Communications  
Manager to be appointed by the Board of Directors as a non-voting  
member of the Board for the period July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2023.  
If you are interested please send your application including a short  
CV and motivation statement to the Board of Directors  
(board at tei-c.org). DEADLINE for applications is JUNE 30, 2020.

The Central Library Zürich is looking for a software developer[21] and  
a data librarian[22]. The deadline for both is JUNE 30, 2020.

The Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt is looking for a digital  
scout[23]. Applications are due JUNE 30, 2020.

The Sächsische Landesbibliothek - Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek  
Dresden is hiring a librarian specialising in Open Access  
publishing[24]. The deadline is JULY 5, 2020.

The University of Hildesheim is offering a PhD position in the field  
of language technologies[25]. The deadline is AUGUST 3, 2020.

The University of Basel is hiring a research navigator[26].

RECENT PUBLICATIONS

A new peer-reviewed, online, open access journal, the  
Interdisciplinary Digital Engagement in Arts & Humanities (IDEAH) has  
been launched. Check out the journal's launch video[27] and take a  
look at the IDEAH homepage[28] to read the first issue!

OTHER

The European H2020 project TRIPLE[29] (an “innovative multilingual and  
multicultural discovery solution for the social sciences and  
humanities”) invites scholars in the Humanities and Social Sciences to  
take part in their survey in order to find out which resources future  
users of their platform will require and prefer. The survey will take  
no longer than 15 minutes. Click here[30] to access the survey.

The first ACDH-CH lecture[31] of 2020 is moving online! The series  
will be continued online this year with Laurent Romary, Inria[32]  
(France), introducing us to the topic “TEI guidelines: born to be  
open”. ACDH Lectures are free and open to all. You can register  
here[33].

The Venice Centre for Digital and Public Humanities[34] has just  
launched a new MA programme[35] (taught in English). Interested  
students can enrol for the admissions test until JULY 31, 2020.

dariahTeach[36] is offering a variety of DH courses for both (virtual)  
classroom settings and lone learners.
