In an article written in the context of the 15th International
/Connotations/ Symposium on “Understanding (Through) Annotations”,
Lena Linne and Burkhard Niederhoff discuss “Annotation as an Embedded
Textual Practice: Analysing Explanatory Notes in Three Editions of Dr
Jekyll and Mr Hyde”. You can find it here[1].
If you want to follow (or even contribute to) the debate on
“Understanding (Through) Annotations” in the /Connotations /journal,
you can find recent articles and submission information here[2].
Despite the Corona crisis, the Tübingen Annotating Literature student
groups will continue to meet (online) until the end of July. For more
information on how you can participate, see here[3]. We will keep you
updated on our plans for the winter term.

The Annotated Web Edition Directory[4] is looking forward to your
suggestions. We are always on the look-out for new entries to add to
the list. Feel free to recommend literary digital editions that
include explanatory annotation (of the social or the editorial kind),
web platforms, tools and applications that enable the user to
(collaboratively) annotate texts. Please use the corresponding form on

Submissions for the 2nd workshop on Structuring and Understanding of
Multimedia heritAge Contents[5] (October 12-16, 2020, Seattle) are due
JULY 30, 2020. The workshop may happen as a virtual workshop.
Submissions for the Digital Academy 2020 „Visualisieren und
Vergleichen. Digitale Praktiken in den Geisteswissenschaften“[6]
(October 20-23, 2020, Bielefeld, Germany) are due JULY 30, 2020.
Call for papers for the Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural
Language Processing on November 19, 2020. All submissions must be
written in English and should follow the EMNLP 2020 formatting
requirements[7]. Submission can be uploaded using the Softconf START
conference management system[8]. DEADLINE for submissions is AUGUST
15, 2020. You can still sign up for the 1ST WORKSHOP ON SCHOLARLY
DOCUMENT PROCESSING (SDP 2020) to be held in conjunction with the 2020
EMNLP Conference. The workshop will be held VIRTUALLY.
Submissions for the 8th DHd conference[9] “Kulturen des digitalen
Gedächtnisses” (March 15-19, 2021, Potsdam, Germany) are due SEPTEMBER
30, 2020.
The Digital Humanities Austria Conference[10] (originally scheduled
for September 23-25, 2020) has been postponed to April, 14-16, 2021.
The deadline for submissions is OCTOBER 10, 2020.
Jan Horstmann and Frank Fischer are requesting submissions for the
special volume „Digitale Verfahren in der Literaturwissenschaft“ in
the open access journal /Textpraxis. Digitales Journal für
Philologie/[11]. The deadline is DECEMBER 31, 2020.

Balisage 2020 will be a virtual event and will take place as planned

The Helsinki Digital Humanities Hackathon[14] is postponed till autumn
2020, register your interest to keep informed. It will be organized
under the name #DHH21.

OTHER
The ACDH-CH lecture[24] of 2020 is moving online! The series will be
continued online this year with Laurent Romary, Inria[25] (France),
introducing us to the topic “TEI guidelines: born to be open”. ACDH
Lectures are free and open to all. You can register here[26].
The Venice Centre for Digital and Public Humanities[27] has just
launched a new MA programme[28] (taught in English). Interested
students can enrol for the admissions test until JULY 31, 2020.
dariahTeach[29] is offering a variety of DH courses for both (virtual)
classroom settings and lone learners.
