The topic of the 15th International /Connotations/ Symposium
(Tübingen, Summer 2019) is “Understanding (Through) Annotations”.
Proposals (300 words max.) can be sent to to the editors of
Connotations until OCTOBER 15, 2018: symposium2019 at connotations.de.
Miriam Lahrsow, a PhD student associated with the /Annotating
Literature Project/, gave a talk on “The Author as Annotator:
Ambiguity, Understanding, and Auto-Annotation in Byron and Pope” at
the International Young Researchers Workshop /Understanding
Understanding[1]/.

The Annotated Web Edition Directory[2] is looking forward to your
suggestions. We are always on the look-out for new entries to add to
the list. Feel free to recommend literary digital editions that
include explanatory annotation (of the social or the editorial kind),
web platforms, tools and applications that enable the user to
(collaboratively) annotate texts. Please use the corresponding form on
our webpage. We thank you for your help.

CALLS FOR PAPERS/ UPCOMING EVENTS
The Shared Task on the Analysis of Narrative Levels Through
Annotation[3] (SANTA) is open to everyone interested in the
/collaborative creation of annotation guidelines./
Proposals are due MAY 31 for the fourth Digital Scholarship
Colloquium [4]on the theme of "The Digital and Democracy" (Case
Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, 1 - 2 November 2018).
Call for Papers for a special issue of Scholarly and Research
Communication[5] with the topic “The Future of Scholarly Publishing:
Algorithms, Bots, Usage Data, Big Data, Visualization, and AI.”
DEADLINES are the following: initial statement of interest: MAY 31,
2018 // abstracts: JULY 15, 2018 // completed work: OCTOBER 31,

Call for Proposals for the Workshop on Computational Methods in the
Humanities 2018 (COMHUM[6] 2018), from JUNE 4–5, 2018 at the
University of Lausanne, Switzerland.
Submissions are due JUNE 15 for a special issue of the Journal of
Interactive Technology and Pedagogy[7] on the theme of "Teaching and
Research with Archives."
The European Association for Digital Humanities (EADH) will hold its
inaugural conference, on the theme “Data in Digital Humanities”, at
the National University of Ireland, Galway on December 7-9, 2018. For
full Call for Papers visit the website[8]. Deadline for proposals[9]
to the Programme Committee is JUNE 18.
Call for Proposals for the Privacy, Open Data and the Humanities
workshop at the School of Advanced Study, London, on JUNE 21. If you
would like to present a short paper, or simply to attend, please send
an email to l.jaillant at lboro.ac.uk.
A workshop on Comics Annotation: Designing Common Frameworks for
Empirical Research[10] will take place 18-19 JUNE in Potsdam, Germany.
The deadline for contributions to the /Open information Science/
special issue on Open Access[11] is 30TH JUNE.
Submissions are due JULY 15 for the 9th International Conference of
Digital Archives and Digital Humanities[12] on the theme of "Facing
the Era of AI+DH" (Dharma Drum Institute of Liberal Arts, Taiwan, 18 -
21 December).
The Perseus Digital Library at Tufts University invites
applications[13] to “Digital Editions, Digital Corpora, and new
Possibilities for the Humanities in the Academy and Beyond[14]” a
two-week NEH Institute for Advanced Technology in the Digital
Humanities (JULY 16-27).
Textual Heritage and Information Technologies[15] will take place in
Vienna and Krems, Austria from SEPTEMBER 14-18, 2018.

Humanities in Medieval and Renaissance Studies “Magic, Religion, and
Science in the Global Middle Ages and Renaissance”, which will take
place from FEBRUARY 7-9, 2019 at the Embassy Suites Phoenix-Scottsdale
Hotel.
Call for Special Issues: /Papers on Language and Literature/ is
seeking proposals for special issues on subjects including Digital
Humanities or Print Culture[19]. The deadline is 1 JANUARY 2020.

CONFERENCE UPDATES
The DHSI 2018 Conference and Colloquium program is online. The full
schedule, with presenter information and talk titles, can be found on
the DHSI website[20].
Registration[21] is now open for the workshop on “Measuring Change in
Digital Humanities: Workshop on Impact Factors and Success Criteria”
(21-22 JUNE, Berlin).
The Digital Pedagogy Lab 2018[22], will take place in Fredericksburg,
VA from JULY 30 – AUGUST 3. Registration[23] is now open! Here is the
full conference programme[24].
The application phase for the 9th European Summer University in
Digital Humanities "Culture & Technology[25]" was EXTENDED to MAY.

SUMMER SCHOOLS
The second edition of the EDEEN Summer School[26] on digital editions
will take place FROM MAY 28TH TO JUNE 2ND, 2018 in Grenoble.
The Digital Humanities at Oxford Summer School (DHOxSS) 2018 is now
open for registration[27]. For more information on the Summer School
visit the website[28]. The Summer School runs this year FROM 2–6
JULY at Keble College, Oxford.
The 9th European Summer University in Digital Humanities "Culture &
Technology[25]" will take place in Leipzig from JULY 17 – 27, 2018.
The website will continually be updated.
This year’s Summer School of the Digital Interview Collection of the
Freie Universität Berlin is concerned with “Learning with interviews.
Video testimonies of Holocaust survivors in history and civic
education[29]”. The deadline is 20 MAY, 2018. The summer school is
free of charge.
