TEASYS – NEWS
On March 22, Leonie Kirchhoff presented TEASys (Tübingen Explanatory
Annotation System) and its practical implementation in literary
studies seminars at the Renaissance Society of America 2018 conference
in New Orleans. The joint paper by Matthias Bauer, Leonie Kirchhoff,
Miriam Lahrsow and Angelika Zirker dealt with “Shakespeare Going
Digital: Reading the Sonnets with TEASys”.
The topic of the 15th International /Connotations/ Symposium
(Tübingen, Summer 2019) is “Understanding (Through) Annotations”.
Proposals (300 words max.) can be sent to to the editors of
Connotations until OCTOBER 15, 2018: symposium2019 at connotations.de.

The Annotated Web Edition Directory[1] is looking forward to your
suggestions. We are always on the look-out for new entries to add to
the list. Feel free to recommend literary digital editions that
include explanatory annotation (of the social or the editorial kind),
web platforms, tools and applications that enable the user to
(collaboratively) annotate texts. Please use the corresponding form on

CALLS FOR PAPERS/ UPCOMING EVENTS
The Shared Task on the Analysis of Narrative Levels Through
Annotation[2] (SANTA) is open to everyone interested in the
collaborative creation of annotation guidelines.
Registration[3] is now open for the conference “Forschungsdesign 4.0 –
Datengenerierung und Wissenstransfer in interdisziplinärer
Perspektive” (19-21 APRIL, Dresden, Germany).
Balisage: The Markup Conference 2018[4] will take place from July 31 -
3, 2018 in Rockville, MD, Washington, DC). Check here for more details
on the Call for Participation[5], SUBMISSIONS are DUE APRIL 22, 2018.
The Digital Mitford Coding School[6], hosted by the Pitt-Greensburg’s
Center for the Digital Text and the University of Pittsburgh Library
System, will take place at Pitt-Greensburg (May 21 - 25,
2018). Registrations[7] are due by TUESDAY, MAY 1.
Call for contributions[8] to the edited collection, Access, Control,
and Dissemination in Digital Humanities. DEADLINE IS MAY 1, 2018.
PROPOSALS ARE DUE MAY 8 for the Japanese Association for Digital
Humanities' 2018 conference[9] on "Leveraging Open Data" (Tokyo,
Japan, 9 - 11 September).
PROPOSALS ARE DUE MAY 31 for the fourth Digital Scholarship
Colloquium [10]on the theme of "The Digital and Democracy" (Case
Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, 1 - 2 November 2018).
SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE JUNE 15 for a special issue of the Journal of
Interactive Technology and Pedagogy[11] on the theme of "Teaching and
Research with Archives."
The DHSI 2018 Conference and Colloquium program is online. The full
schedule, with presenter information and talk titles, can be found on
the DHSI website[12].
Call for Proposals for the Workshop on Computational Methods in the
Humanities 2018 (COMHUM[13] 2018), from JUNE 4–5, 2018 at the
University of Lausanne, Switzerland.
Registration[14] is now open for the workshop on “Measuring Change in
Digital Humanities: Workshop on Impact Factors and Success Criteria”
(21-22 June, Berlin).
The Perseus Digital Library at Tufts University invites
applications[15] to “Digital Editions, Digital Corpora, and new
Possibilities for the Humanities in the Academy and Beyond[16]” a
two-week NEH Institute for Advanced Technology in the Digital
Humanities (JULY 16-27, 2018).
The Digital Pedagogy Lab 2018[17], will take place in Fredericksburg,
VA from JULY 30 – AUGUST 3. Registration[18] is now open! Here is the
full conference programme[19].
Textual Heritage and Information Technologies[20] will take place in
Vienna and Krems, Austria from SEPTEMBER 14-18, 2018.

Call for Papers for the 25th Annual ACMRS Conference[22]: Digital
Humanities in Medieval and Renaissance Studies “Magic, Religion, and
Science in the Global Middle Ages and Renaissance”, which will take
place from February 7-9, 2019 at the Embassy Suites Phoenix-Scottsdale
Hotel.

SUMMER SCHOOLS
The second edition of the EDEEN Summer School[23] on digital editions
will take place FROM MAY 28TH TO JUNE 2ND, 2018 in Grenoble.
The Digital Humanities at Oxford Summer School (DHOxSS) 2018 is now
open for registration[24]. For more information on the Summer School
visit the website[25]. The Summer School runs this year FROM 2–6
JULY at Keble College, Oxford.
The 9th European Summer University in Digital Humanities "Culture &
Technology[26]" will take place in Leipzig from JULY 17 – 27, 2018.
The website will continually be updated.

JOBS/SCHOLARSHIPS
The project “Fontanes Notizbücher” (Göttingen, Germany) is searching a
technical/editorial assistant[27]. The deadline for applications is 20
April.
The Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften (Berlin) is
searching for a programmer[28] specialising in UX/UI design and
usability. The deadline is 20 April.
The University of Erlangen (Germany) is searching for an expert in
digitization[29]. The deadline is 20.4.
GESIS is offering grants[30] to researchers (advanced doctoral
candidates and higher) for a stay at their institute. The deadline is
27 April.
The Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rome is hiring a research technology
officer[31]. The deadline is 2 May.
The Center for Digital Humanities (Münster, Germany) is hiring four
research fellows[32] for its Center for Digital Humanities. The
deadline is 11. May.
The University of Basel (Switzerland) is looking for a web application
developer[33].

RECENT PUBLICATIONS/WEBSITES
A recent article by Susan Gonzalez offers insights into this year’s
“Beyond Boundaries[34],” a symposium that discussed DH work being
undertaken by students, faculty, researchers, and staff at Yale
University.
In their article, Katy Jordan and Martin Weller[35] investigate in how
far academics perceive online social networking platforms as
beneficial for their work across disciplines.
The official journal of the Text Encoding Initiative Consortium[36],
the Journal of the Text Encoding Initiative[37] is an open edition
