The HKUST VisLab<http://vis.cse.ust.hk/> led by Prof. Huamin Qu<http://www.huamin.org/> at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is seeking highly motivated and talented students to join the research team. The following are the highlighted research directions and projects in VisLab.

About our research group:  
The HKUST Visualization Lab (HKUST VisLab, lab homepage: <http://vis.cse.ust.hk/> http://vis.cse.ust.hk/), established by Professor Huamin Qu in 2004, is recognized as one of the most prolific visualization research teams worldwide. We conduct cutting-edge research in data visualization, human-computer interaction (HCI), and augmented and virtual reality (AR&VR) to enhance data exploration and analysis across various applications, including e-learning, digital twins, and data storytelling.

About the research directions/projects
E-Learning<http://vis.cse.ust.hk/groups/e-learning/> is to create an engaging and transformative learning experience that will redefine education. By harnessing technologies like AI, data visualization, and XR, we are on a mission to revolutionize how students learn and engage in the future. The current project is dedicated to creating an immersive English learning environment for secondary school students through the innovative use of virtual reality technology and artificial intelligence. As one of the team members, you'll have the exciting opportunity to develop an interactive platform where learners can engage in real-time with AI tutors, practice speaking in simulated real-life scenarios, and receive personalized guidance and feedback tailored to their needs.

Position Description and Requirements
We are looking for potential PhD and MPhil students to join the research team in e-learning direction. The responsibilities and requirements for each position are listed as follows.

PhD students:

  *
A bachelor’s degree or above in computer science or related majors;
  *
Strong interests and motivation in E-Learning d dDirectionleathe above-listed research direction;
  *
Great academic records;
  *
Experience or skills in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred:
     *
Proficient in VR/AR research and development
     *
Proficient in AI research and big data analysis, including data fusion research
     *
Proficient in Front-end and Back-end development
     *
Experience in LLM related research
     *
Experience in Visual Analytics and E-Learning


MPhil students:

  *
Have good academic achievement.
  *
Preference will be given to those with the necessary experience or skills in the aforementioned research directions/projects.

Benefits:
PhD/MPhil students

A monthly studentship of 18,000 Hong Kong dollars
  *
For excellent PhD students, we can assist you in applying for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), which provides an annual stipend of 331,000 Hong Kong dollars.
  *
Travel allowance for attending conferences
