2 PhD Positions on Basic Research (Drones, Drone-Swarms, and Machine
Learning)
The world is changing at an ever-faster pace. At the Johannes Kepler
University Linz, we work on technologies and the ideas of tomorrow on a

meet the demands of today’s job market. In short, we are Upper Austria’s

university? We currently have an immediate job opening for:
2 Graduate Project Assistants (must hold a Diploma/Master’s degree) for
a 30-hour/week (PhD position), 1.5/2-year (with option for extension) at
the Institute of Computer Graphics
Job Duties:
• Collaboration in exciting basic research projects on (a) early
wildfire detection with drones (in cooperation with the Upper Austrian
Fire Brigade Headquarters) and (b) on detecting and tracking moving
targets in dense forest with drones (in cooperation with the German
Aerospace Center (DLR) and Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg).

• Possibility for obtaining a PhD
• Research, development, and field experiments
• Planning and execution of field experiments
• Research- and Development collaboration with project teams
• Publication of scientific results
Your Qualifications:
• The successful candidate must hold a Diploma/Master’s degree in a
corresponding discipline
(computer science, mathematics, engineering or related) or have
equivalent qualifications
• Expertise in one or multiple of the following areas: Machine Learning,
Computer Vision, Image Processing, Robotics
• Excellent programming skills in Python, C++, PyTorch/TensorFlow
• Willingness and ability to work in a team
• Motivation to solve research problems
• Very good command of spoken and written English (level C1)
• Language skills in German are not required

• On the basis of full-time employment (40 hours/week) the minimum
salary in accordance with the collective agreement is
€ 3,277.30 gross per month (14 x per year, CA Job Grade: B1)
