Dear Prospective Postdoctoral Researchers,
The <http://vis.cse.ust.hk/> HKUST VisLab<http://vis.cse.ust.hk/> led by <http://www.huamin.org/> Prof. Huamin Qu<http://www.huamin.org/> at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is seeking highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researchers to join the research team. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of data visualization and human-computer interaction. The following are highlighted research directions and projects in VisLab.
Explainable AI (XAI)<http://vis.cse.ust.hk/groups/xai-vis/> applies visual analytics techniques and human-centered design to make AI systems explainable, interactive, and trustworthy, especially in crucial fields such as healthcare, finance, and sustainability. With XAI, it is easier to build trustworthy AI solutions: we trust its performance, know when and where it is possible to fail and can decide whether the AI solution meets our needs.
Sustainable Smart City<http://vis.cse.ust.hk/groups/urbanvis/> aims at supporting informed decision makings by city planners to build and manage a safe, intelligent, and sustainable city by leveraging the power of visual analytics in exploring and understanding the massive, multisource, and multiform data in the rapid urbanization process.
AI4VIS<http://vis.cse.ust.hk/groups/ai4vis/> investigates AI-powered techniques for modeling, authoring, analyzing, and interacting with data visualizations, across a wide range of applications such as visualization recommendation, information extraction from visualizations, and so on. The most recent project is funded by Research Grants Council (Hong Kong) and will last until Dec. 2025. The duties included reverse engineering visualization, mining visualization-related knowledge from data, conducting evaluations, and delivering open-source datasets and tools.
XR+VIS is devoted to innovating XR visualization techniques and authoring tools, developing XR applications to facilitate big data analysis for decision making, and bringing XR into real life to enrich everyone’s XR experience. The most recent project is funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund of Hong Kong and will last until Dec. 2025. The duties of the project focus on creating AR tools for slope safety testing, public education, and so on.
E-Learning<http://vis.cse.ust.hk/groups/e-learning/> is dedicated to leveraging rich data from online learning to assist educators in understanding students’ behavior and performance to improve the teaching design efficiently and effectively. The most recent project is funded by the Innovation and Technology Fund of Hong Kong and will last until Jan. 2025. The duties of the project focus on developing visual analytics systems to assist teachers in evaluating students' skills, generating performance reports, and recommending personalized learning paths for students.
