Dear colleagues,

We are looking for candidates for a Fully-Funded PhD at the giCentre (http://www.gicentre.net/) , in collaboration with Redsift (http://redsift.io) to start in October 2015. The scholarship is funded by Redsift and the project will be executed in very tight co-operation with the company. This is an exciting opportunity to spend three years working on cutting edge research in central London at the intersection of academia and industry.

About giCentre:
The giCentre is based in the Department of Computer Science at City University London - http://www.city.ac.uk/department-computer-science . We specialise in developing and applying new techniques for visualizing data. This ranges from visualization of 'big data' to personalised data presentation; from visual analytics to visual story telling; from cartography and GIS to statistical graphics. More details on our web page - http://www.gicentre.net/
About Redsift:
Founded by some of the people behind Shazam and backed by the most experienced entrepreneurs and angels in London, Redsift has a unique vision for what the future of email holds. Find out more at: http://redsift.io .

About the project:
Unravelling email data through interactive visual data analysis

We are looking for a curious and pragmatic PhD candidate to apply human-assisted machine learning and predictive analytics through visual analytics and design interactive dynamic visualisations of email content. This process will be built on Redsift's stream processing platform and the candidate will be working closely with the Redsift engineering team to refine and validate the services and components that will later be offered to the wider academic community. An ideal candidate would:

- Have a strong academic background and interest in data visualisation, search, machine learning techniques and the associated statistical modelling and validation.
- Are proficient with software development in a modern programming language such as Go, DLang, Rust or Java 8.
- Have knowledge of Javascript based visualisation tools e.g. D3.js. and interest in NLP techniques.

The scholarship provides an annual bursary (£16,000 in 2015/16) and a full tuition fee waiver for three years. We will be accepting applications until mid-August 2015 with the aim of starting in October 2015.
