Brown University seeks an experienced leader to serve as the Executive Director of the Center for Computation and Visualization (CCV). CCV (http://ccv.brown.edu) provides the Brown University research community with a broad array of services including high performance computing, a large collection of computational research software, storage of research data, hosting services and high end visualization tools, including a world-class 140 megapixel Cave. CCV also provides research assistance with a team of discipline-specific application scientists who can provide technical assistance and programming support whether research is being conducted locally or using national high performance computing resources. 

The Executive Director is the strategic and operational leader for the center. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Computing and Information Services/CIO and in collaboration with a faculty led steering committee, he/she establishes strategic direction for the Center. Working with the VP/CIO, the director is responsible for developing and managing a cost effective mix of on-premises and cloud-based service offerings in support of research activities of Brown faculty and students. The director also provides operational leadership, supervising a staff of 9 professionals including systems administrators, programmers, applications scientists and administrative support staff. He/She is responsible for ensuring the reliability and availability of the Center's services. The director develops and maintains a sustainable financial model to support center operations and is responsible for all financial operations and staffing. 

The Executive Director position is a recognized campus leadership role at Brown. Under the guidance of the senior leadership, he/she champions CCV to faculty and the needs of computational research to senior University administration. The director also maintains connections outside of Brown, establishing and maintaining relationships with regional and national high performance computing facilities, peer institutions and service providers.  
The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent leadership, management, interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to think creatively, to innovate, and to be entrepreneurial. The director must be able to interact and communicate with Brown University researchers who are leaders in their respective fields of research as well both graduate and undergraduate students. An advanced degree in the sciences or engineering and a published record of computational science or scientific visualization research experience is highly desirable, as is direct experience with federal research funding programs and proposal preparation.
