[Ieee_vis_open_positions] Research Assistant Professor, UNC-Chapel Hill & Being There International Research Centre for Telepresence and Telecollaboration

We are seeking a researcher for a position lasting two years at UNC Chapel
Hill. The researcher will rotate between UNC Chapel Hill and Nanyang
Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, spending six months per year
at each institution. The Being There Centre's research focuses on
acquisition and display of 3D environments, large-format and mobile 3D
displays, robotic humanoid avatars, and autonomous virtual humans. Position
remains open until filled.
 *Selected Possible Research Topics:*
- Automatic real-time reconstruction of dynamic 3D environments using
multiple cameras and depth imaging devices
- Novel auto-stereoscopic displays, conventional head-tracked stereoscopic
displays
- Hardware-based and vision-based tracking technology for users, robots,
and displays
- Calibration of cameras, depth imagers, displays, trackers, and robots
- Designing, building and operating robotic avatars that represent remote
human users: electronics, mechanics, optics, etc.
- Acquiring imagery and motion information of moving human users and
mapping these onto remotely operating robotic avatars
- Human factors and ergonomics
- Controlled studies testing various hypotheses arising within the above
research topics
*Tasks:*
- Lead the development of complex interactive hardware-software systems
- Lead undergraduate and graduate student research. Submit scientific
papers to conferences and journals
- Prepare technical and progress reports. Collaborate on submission of
research proposals
 *Requirements:*
- PhD in Computer Science. Experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics considered valuable
- Strong background in Graphics, Virtual Reality, and Computer Vision
- Excellent coding skills
- Good oral and written English communication skills
- Demonstrated research accomplishments (e.g. technical papers)
