*Project description*

This project aims to understand the role of TREHALOSE-6-PHOSPHATE SYNTHASE 1 (TPS1) and its product,
trehalose-6-phosphate (T6P), in regulating the timing of flowering. T6P is a non-reducing
disaccharide that coveys information about sugar availability to other signaling pathways. In
particular, T6P/TPS1 signaling has been shown to play an important role in regulating the transition
to flowering in /Arabidopsis thaliana/. However, many questions regarding the molecular mechanisms
underlying T6P/TPS1 signaling remain open. To answer these questions this project pursues the
following specific goals: a) characterize the molecular function of TPS1; b) characterize new
candidate T6P/TPS1 signaling components identified from an already completed EMS suppressor screen;
and c) study the effect of T6P/TPS1 on chromatin features in /Arabidopsis thaliana./
