Subject: Postdoc and PhD available in sunny Melbourne.

It's snowing at the end of April in the UK so perhaps moving to Australia for a postdoc or PhD might be appealing!

Mat Lewsey is starting a new lab in Melbourne and is looking for people to join him. Mat discussed some of his work on a recent Arabidopsis Research Roundup: http://goo.gl/0EoODO

> A postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Dr Mathew Lewsey at
the Centre for AgriBioscience (La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia
- http://www.latrobe.edu.au/agribio [1]).

The project focuses on systems-level regulation of gene expression by transcription factors during germination and early plant growth. A range of wet-bench and computational approaches will be applied, including plant molecular biology, high-throughput sequencing (ChIP-seq, RNA-seq) and bioinformatic analyses.

International applicants are welcome. The position is for 1 year, fixed-term, with extension possible dependent on funding and performance. Contact me (via lewseylab.org) for informal discussion and further information.

A PhD scholarship is also available in the lab, with two potential projects available. The first project is linked to the postdoctoral position described above, focusing on systems-level regulation of gene expression by transcription factors during germination and early plant growth. The second investigates communication between shoots and roots by small RNAs, which regulate patterns of DNA methylation. Both projects will incorporate aspects of genomics, plant molecular biology and bioinformatics, and can be tailored to fit individual interests.
International applicants are welcome. The scholarship is for 3 years.
