Miriam Lahrsow, one of our PhD students, gave a talk on “Pope’s and  
Byron’s Self-Annotations: Brevity, Efficiency, Ambiguity” in the  
colloquium of the Research Training Group “Kleine Formen”[1] at  
Humboldt University Berlin (November 4, 2019.)

The Annotated Web Edition Directory[2] is looking forward to your  
suggestions. We are always on the look-out for new entries to add to  
the list. Feel free to recommend literary digital editions that  
include explanatory annotation (of the social or the editorial kind),  
web platforms, tools and applications that enable the user to  
(collaboratively) annotate texts. Please use the corresponding form on  
our webpage. We thank you for your help.

Our most recent addition to the directory is The Digital Temple - A  
Documentary Edition of George Herbert’s English Verse[3].

CALLS FOR PAPERS/UPCOMING EVENTS

APPLICATIONS are DUE NOVEMBER 22, 2019, for presenters at the Digital  
Pedagogy Lab UK[4] critical digital pedagogy workshop (April 20-22,  
2020).

The inaugural international conference of the Open/Technology,  
Education, Society, and Scholarship Association (OTESSA[5]) will be  
held at the Canadian Congress of the Humanities and the Social  
Sciences between MAY 31 - JUNE 1, 2020, in London, Ontario. The theme  
for this first gathering is Intersections: Connecting Open/Technology,  
Education, Society, and Scholarship. Submissions are DUE NOVEMBER 28,  
2019. Please follow the link[6] to submit your proposal.

Applications are due NOVEMBER 30, 2019 for the International Spring  
School “Own Data. Systems Medicine between Sovereignty and  
Solidarity[7]“ (30 March – 2 April, 2020, Erlangen and Nuremberg,  
Germany).

The application process for the Winter Institute in Digital Humanities  
at NYU Abu Dhabi in JANUARY 19-22, 2020 has begun. Early bird  
registration ends on October 31, 2019 and the general registration  
closes December 1, 2019. For more information please visit the

PROPOSALS are now being accepted for presentations at the DHSI  
Conference & Colloquium, to be held in June 2020 alongside classes at  
the Digital Humanities Summer Institute, University of Victoria.  
Please submit proposals using  
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=dhsi2020.  The DEADLINE for  
submissions is JANUARY 20, 2020.

CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS: The /Journal of Open Archaeology Data  
(JOAD)/[8] is accepting submissions for publication for 2019. JOAD  
publishes data papers, which do not contain research results but  
rather a concise description of a dataset, and where to find it. Any  
kind of archaeological data is acceptable, including for example:  
geophysical data; quantitative or qualitative data; images; notebooks;  
excavation data, software, etc. Submissions can be sent throughout the  
year.

CALL FOR ESSAYS for /Impressions, Vol. 2: Essays on the Art of  
Printing/[9], published by The Legacy Press. For more information

Applications are invited for PARTICIPATION IN A SERIES OF ADVANCED  
INSTITUTES ON TEXT ANALYSIS, sponsored by the Northeastern University

  UPDATES

The European Association for Digital Humanities is very pleased to  
announce that its second INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE EADH 2020 will be  
held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. The conference will be hosted by the  
Siberian Federal University and will take place in September 2020.

SUMMER SCHOOLS

You can now register[11] for the DHSI 2020[12], taking place between  
June 1-5 and June 8-12, 2020, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. A

DHSI Atlantic will be hosted at University College Cork, Ireland, from  
June 15-19, 2020. For more information and to see the programme follow

JOBS/SCHOLARSHIPS/GRANTS

The Digital Technology and Culture program at Washington State  
University, Pullman, invites applications for an ASSISTANT PROFESSOR  
FOR DATA VISUALIZATION starting AUGUST 2020. For more information  
please see website[14].

The Goethe Universität Frankfurt (Germany) is offering two research  
positions concerned with a digital edition of an old-Lithuanian text.   
You can find them here[15]. The deadline for both is NOVEMBER 30, 2019.

The Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen (SUB  
Göttingen) is looking for a field librarian specialising in Romance  
studies and/or art history, as well as DH[16]. The deadline is  
DECEMBER 4, 2019.

The Institute of History at Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany)  
seeks to appoint a Professor for Humanities Data Science and  
Methodology[17]. The deadline is DECEMBER 8, 2019.

The Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities at Northwestern  
University invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship  
in the Digital Humanities, to run from September 1, 2020 through  
August 31, 2022. The application DEADLINE is DECEMBER 15, 2019.  
Applications can be uploaded here[18].

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, seeks a RESEARCH SCIENTIST FOR  
DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT, AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT in the context of our  
diverse scholarly, pedagogical, expressive, and public-facing digital  
projects. They are particularly looking for expertise with digital  
archives encompassing text, audio, and video with attention to the  
cultural, ethical, and political dimensions of the creation and use of  
archives. The position is a full-time, fixed-term position for the  
life of the grant which ends in June 2022. Review of applications will  
begin DECEMBER 1, 2019 until the position is filled. Please send the

Whitman College is offering a TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN COMPUTER  
SCIENCE at the rank of assistant professor, effective from August,

The Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum is hiring a project assistant  
specialising in 3D digitalisation[19]. The deadline is DECEMBER 1, 2019.

With the support of the Gerda Henkel Foundation, the German Historical  
Institute (GHI) and the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New  
Media at the George Mason University (RRCHNM) invite applications from  
postdoctoral scholars and advanced doctoral students based in Europe  
for a 12-month fellowship in digital history[20]. The deadline is  
JANUARY 5, 2020.
RDA Europe is offering up to seven grants[21] of maximum €2400 to  
Early Career European Researchers & Scientists working with data to  
attend the 15th RDA Plenary meeting, to be held in Melbourne,  
Australia, 18 - 20 March 2020. The deadline is FEBRUARY 3, 2020.
