Dear colleagues,
We are inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) position at the intersection of Visual Analytics, Human-AI Collaboration, and Human-Centered AI.
Together, we will design and develop innovative approaches for the characterization, design, and evaluation of interactive visual data analysis solutions that combine the complementary strengths of humans and algorithms. Our goal is to explore new forms of human-AI collaboration that enhance, rather than replace, human involvement in data-driven decision-making.
The position is part of an SNF-funded research project on multi-criteria decision support, focusing on novel methods for human preference elicitation and interactive-visual ranking creation systems.
Project Title: Personalized Visual Analytics Human Preference Elicitation for Ranking-Based Multi-Criteria Decision Support.
Project duration: Four years in total
Collaboration with: Prof. Mennatallah El-Assady (ETH Zurich)
Start Date: As soon as possible
Application deadline: November 15

Research Context: Multi-criteria decision support through item ranking remains an underexplored area of research. Existing solutions often fail to reflect the rich, multifaceted nature of human decision-making. People regularly face complex choices, such as selecting among thousands of items, where they must express and balance multiple, sometimes conflicting, preferences.
Item rankings offer a universal and powerful way to organize such unstructured item collections according to various criteria. Using Visual Analytics, we aim to combine human intuition with the computational power of algorithms to create interactive, human-in-the-loop decision support systems.
The project investigates how highly personalized and explainable ranking approaches can be achieved through interactive and visual methods, for instance, when selecting a car, a stock, an apartment, etc. based on multiple user-defined criteria.
