Postdoctoral Fellow at University of Waterloo

Job Description
The Waterloo HCI Lab<http://hci.cs.uwaterloo.ca/> in the Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in the areas of visualization and human-computer interaction. The candidate will work in the WatVis research group under the supervision of Dr. Jian Zhao<https://www.jeffjianzhao.com/>. The candidate is expected to establish their own research agenda on the topic areas that are agreed upon by the candidate and the supervisor. Example topics include but are not limited to:
•       Intelligent systems for collaborative data analysis, communication, and storytelling
•       Multimodal (e.g., Pen+Touch, AR, VR) and mobile interaction techniques
•       Data-driven methods for supporting exploratory data analysis (EDA)
•       Interpretable machine learning and explainable AI
•       Human-AI interaction/collaboration
•       Systems and techniques for applications in data science, social computing, etc.
The candidate is expected to conduct original research and publish at top venues in visualization and human-computer interaction, such as VIS, CHI, UIST, and CSCW. The candidate is also invited to teach at most two courses per year, supervise research projects led by graduate students, and help with grant applications.

Qualifications
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field. The candidate should have demonstrated experience and a strong publication record in visualization and human-computer interaction. The following technical skills are required:
•       Prototyping and development skills
•       Quantitative and qualitative research methods
•       Knowledge of applied machine learning and data science
The salary will be commensurate with typical amounts within Canadian universities, with additional funds for conference travel, and a complete benefits plan.
