The Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Science at University of Tübingen and the
independent Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien (IWM) are seeking to appoint a

W3 Research Professor for Applied Data Science

beginning 1 April 2022.
The successful applicant will be expected to enrich the research profile of the Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien (IWM) with applied data science in the context of education research or use of media for knowledge contexts.
The successful applicant will have an outstanding, internationally visible research profile in fields such as human-AI interaction, educational data mining, computational social science, natural language processing, visual analytics or their application in research on education and the use of media. The successful applicant will be expected to acquire substantial competitive external funding.
The position also entails setting up a corresponding work group at the IWM as well as participation in the management and further development of the Institute. The successful applicant will be open to applying their own spectrum of methods to various types of data (e.g. analysis of learning processes, social media data, eye tracking or EEG data) and to engaging in cooperative, interdisciplinary research with other IWM working groups. The Machine Learning Excellence Cluster and Cyber Valley also provide highly attractive opportunities for cooperation. A further key feature of this research professorship is a greatly reduced teaching load.
Required qualifications include a PhD or equivalent international degree and postdoctoral qualifications equivalent to the requirements for tenure. The appointment will be made at the Faculty of Science of Tübingen University.
The Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien (IWM) is a member of the Leibniz Association (Leibniz Gemeinschaft) and conducts research on knowledge acquisition, knowledge exchange and cooperation with digital media and is committed to international standards of excellent science.
