The School of Interactive Arts & Technology (SIAT) is an internationally recognized interdisciplinary school with a focus on technology and human experience. Our research is characterized by the four major themes of Computing, Media, Design, and People. We do Computing as if People, Design, and Media matter, and value interdisciplinarity. SIAT offers degrees at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels. The School currently enrolls about 800 undergraduates and 110 PhD and Masters graduate students. SIAT’s infrastructure includes state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities at Simon Fraser University’s Surrey campus.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated research expertise in the structure, practice and interpretation of interactive digital media. (S)he will have deep knowledge of and experience in using interactive digital media in collaboration with external communities. (S)he will have demonstrated knowledge of and accomplishment in research practice, interdisciplinary innovation, and community engagement. Ideally, (s)he will have demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in integrating psychological, physiological, or behavioural science with interactive digital media.
SIAT is open to new ways of focusing on interactive digital media. You would join a school of engaged faculty and be a key member of its interactive digital media focus. Current SIAT research in interactive digital media includes e-health, participatory media production, virtual and augmented reality, mediation of cultural heritage, computational creativity, embodied interaction, and computational design. SIAT encourages new focus areas that engage with external communities.
Applicants must have a PhD and are expected to articulate or demonstrate how their research program has attracted and can attract significant external funding. SIAT expects that applicants will also develop successful collaborations with other faculty in our highly interdisciplinary environment, across SFU, and nationally and/or internationally, as well as engaging industry, non-profits or other networks. Applicants should have teaching experience at the undergraduate level and a strong potential for instructional innovation. All SIAT faculty must have a high degree of technological literacy regardless of their disciplinary background.
Simon Fraser University (SFU) at Surrey is the University’s newest campus located in the greater Vancouver region of British Columbia. The area is home to Canada’s cultural and entertainment industry and much of its digital media production. SIAT works as a unit of the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology (FCAT), which includes the School of Communication, the School for the Contemporary Arts, the Publishing Program and the Master of Digital Media Program (MDM).
