Applications are invited for a full-time postdoctoral researcher in the development of Human Computer Interfaces and Visualization techniques of Corpus-based Lexicography & Academic Writing at the School of Computer Science, Bangor University.

The objective of this AHRC-funded post is to research how information to help writers produce more accurate and idiomatic texts can be migrated from dictionaries and corpora to digital writing environments in an optimum, minimally intrusive way, without disrupting writing processes. The research will involve working with linguists and lexicographers to design and code a set of tools that visualize and integrate information on collocation with text editors. The work will include design studies, code development and usability studies.

You should have a PhD in Computer Science or related area, with substantial computing design and development experience. You should have experience of developing Human Computer Interfaces (HCI) and/or data Visualization tools, native or near-native knowledge of English, good organizational skills, experience in creating and managing databases, previous experience of natural language processing (NLP) and experience in usability studies. Additionally, you should be able to work independently and as part of a research team, and be willing to collaborate remotely with different members of the project, as well as in face-to-face interactions and be willing to attend and be involved with international conferences.

The project will involve close collaboration with a team of researchers based at the Universities of Surrey and Bangor (UK) and Poznan (Poland), with expertise in second language writing, corpus-based lexicography, dictionary use research, data visualization and human-computer interaction.

The successful candidate will be expected to start as soon as possible and the post is available for a period of 3 years.
