Postdoctoral fellowships available in large data processing and
visualization
The STIM Laboratory is a new research group in the Department of
Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Houston. We
have open positions for postdoctoral fellows interested in image
processing and visualization of large (multi-terabyte) data sets.
This work will focus on developing new methods for disease diagnosis,
with a particular focus on cancer imaging. Funding is available to
support fellowships for up to four years.

Location:
The University of Houston is classified as a “Tier One” (Carnegie RU/VH)
research university, and is one of four major research universities in
Texas. We are located in central Houston, which is the fourth largest
city in the United States and a central player in both energy and
biomedical research. Houston is currently the top city in the U.S. for
job creation, and is home to more than 20 Fortune 500 companies. We have
a strong industrial and academic research focus, including both NASA and
the Texas Medical Center, which is the largest medical center in the world.
Qualifications:
* Completed a doctoral degree in computer engineering, computer science,
or related field, with research experience in visualization and image
processing (including data mining, visualization, and machine learning).
* Demonstrate a strong potential for successful interdisciplinary
research. We are currently focused on developing methods for collecting
and processing large-scale images of tissue using serial microscopy and
mid-infrared spectroscopic imaging. This will require extensive
collaboration with clinical colleagues at the nearby Texas Medical
Center, including the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
* Willingness to provide support to both undergraduate and graduate
students through mentoring and collaboration.
* Proficiency in both written and oral English.
The University of Houston is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action
institution. Minorities, women, veterans and persons with disabilities
are encouraged to apply. Additionally, the University prohibits
discrimination in employment on the basis of sexual orientation, gender
identity or gender expression.
Application:
Interested scientists can contact me directly or send their CV and a
description of their research interests to stim at uh.edu.
