Assistant Professor of Security and Privacy (Job # 60544)

The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) invites applications for a faculty position in Security and Privacy at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek exceptional candidates with a high quality research and publication record to enhance and complement our existing research strengths. Individuals studying security and privacy issues from the socio-technical, behavioral (including cognition and human centered design), and societal perspectives are strongly encouraged to apply. We welcome applications with a variety of disciplinary backgrounds including but not limited to social sciences, computer and information sciences, management of information systems, communication, design and organizational sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally competitive, externally funded research program, and contribute to graduate and undergraduate education and training.

The college possesses a strong graduate program (with over 100 Ph.D. students) and a highly successful undergraduate program specialized in security and risk analysis. The College boasts strong research programs in Information Security and Privacy (the cyber-security program is currently funded by over $4 million of prestigious external grants), Intelligent Systems, Data Analytics, Informatics, Human Centered, and Socio-Technical systems. Current research projects in Information Security and Privacy include systems and software security, usability considerations in privacy and security, economics of information security, privacy, family systems analysis of Internet privacy, privacy risks, and several cross-cutting areas. The college offers a highly collaborative research environment with opportunities for collaboration offered by the Institute for Cyberscience, the Social Sciences Research Institute, and The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences; these institutes serve as focal points for transformative research in areas of critical national priority. The Pennsylvania State University is the land grant institution of Pennsylvania. In the 2013 institutional rankings of total research expenditures in science and engineering released by the National Science Foundation, the university, placed 17th overall nationally, and was tied with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, for the 2nd position, with respect to the number of disciplines in which it is ranked among the top ten. University Park is the largest of Penn State's 24 campuses, with an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 42,000 students and offering more than 150 programs of graduate study. University Park is located in Central Pennsylvania, adjacent to the municipality of State College. The community offers a vibrant culture, highly rated schools, and an excellent quality of life.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in Information Sciences and Technology or a related field by the time the appointment begins.
