The University of Leeds in the UK is recruiting 14 University Academic Fellows in data analytics. The Fellowships are 5-year tenure-track positions that build on our current research, which includes the MRC Medical Bioinformatics Centre (funded by the Medical Research Council; £7m) and the Consumer Data Research Centre (funded by the ESRC; £5m). Both of these Centres are part of the newly formed Leeds Institute for Data Analytics.

All Fellowships close for application on Sunday 16th November 2014 unless otherwise stated in the individual role details. Full details [.] are at http://250greatminds.leeds.ac.uk/. The data analytics Fellowships are:

Methods and Tools for Big Data Analytics (School of Computing) Data-driven science and the exploitation of big data is seen as key to the future prosperity of the UK (e.g. Chancellor of the Exchequer's Royal Society speech, 9 Nov 2012). Data Analytics features prominently in the new University Strategic Plan, and is a key priority in the School's teaching and research strategies. Collectively, we have [.]

Holders of External Fellowships - Complexity Science (School of Mathematics) The School of Mathematics is developing its activity in the area of Complexity Science and related areas, in particular in nonlinear dynamics on networks, understanding how influence is propagated in social networks, dynamics of social and evolutionary systems, adaptive networks, and applications of all these to large, challenging problems drawn from the real world. This [.]

Health Informatics (Faculty of Medicine & Health; Faculty of Biological Sciences; School of Geography) This is a unique opportunity to establish your career in a superbly resourced environment based on the new Leeds MRC Centre for Medical Bioinformatics. Alongside our colleagues in the Leeds ESRC Consumer Data Research Centre we have created the Leeds Institute for Data Analytics, which provides the cross-Faculty research platforms for academics from a wide [.]

Molecular Pathology and Digital Pathology (Pathology and Tumour Biology, Faculty of Medicine & Health) Advances in molecular and digital pathology promise to have a huge impact on medicine, patients and our understanding of human disease. Pathology and Tumour Biology at the University of Leeds is a leading academic Pathology centre in the UK. It aims to deliver improvements in patient outcome and has internationally recognised research groupings for pathology/molecular [.]

Spatial Data Analytics (School of Geography) The Centre for Spatial Analysis and Policy (CSAP) within the School of Geography has been successful in securing a major ESRC award in the form of the Consumer Data Research Centre (CDRC). The CDRC will initially focus on collecting and exploiting anonymised consumer data collected by organisations in customer facing sectors such as retail, telecoms, [.]

Computational Agronomy (School of Biology, Faculty of Biological Sciences) Agricultural land management is increasingly dependent on models and data from sensors, satellites and other sources, to ensure that soil, crops and livestock are managed at a very fine scale to enable precise management of nutrients and pesticides, whilst enhancing ecological processes that support agriculture. You will seek to develop and exploit these higher quality [.]

Information Management (Leeds University Business School) Leeds University Business School is a leading international business school and a strong research intensive Faculty of the University of Leeds. Founded in 2002, [.]

Affective Design Technologies (School of Design) In recent years, there has been growing interest in the use of technologies, such as eye tracking and electroencephalography (EEG), to define the subjective emotional relationships between consumers and products and to explore the affective properties that products communicate through their attributes. You will develop a research profile in this theme that will contribute to [.]

Big Data and Transport Modelling (Institute for Transport Studies) Traffic congestion costs £20bn per year to the UK economy. Active Traffic Management (ATM) has been designed to reduce traffic congestion through responsive control methods including variable speed limits, ramp metering on freeways or signal timings in urban networks. Traffic prediction models are a crucial part of such ATM programs that underpin traffic network reliability [.]

Crime and Policing Data Analytics (School of Law) The fellowship will be based in the School of Law and be aligned with the Security and Justice Research Group of the Building Sustainable Societies transformation programme. You will be linked to and support the N8 Policing Research Partnership Catalyst Fund bid 'Innovation and the Application of Knowledge for More Effective Policing' which has been [.]

Digital Methods (School of Media and Communication) People's social media and web use generates a vast new source of data that is increasingly mined for real-time insights into the nature of social networks, opinion and behaviour.
