The visualization group (led by Prof. D. Weiskopf) at the Institute of Visualization and Interactive Systems, University of Stuttgart, Germany, is looking to fill a position for a PhD student: 

* PhD Research Position in Scientific Visualization *
(German Federal pay scale TV-L 13, full-time, temporary position)

Applicants are sought for research in scientific visualization, such as the visualization of scalar and vector fields or time-varying data. The following sub-topics are relevant:
- Scientific visualization (e.g. volume visualization, flow visualization)
- Combination with methods from information visualization or visual analytics
- Interaction techniques for scientific visualization
- Applications in physics or engineering
- Visual perception
Applicants are expected to have experience in visual computing, computer graphics, or visualization - ideally in one or several of the above sub-topics. The details of the research focus will be determined in consultation with the applicant.

- Excellent MSc degree in computer science or a related field
- In-depth knowledge in visualization, computer graphics, or a related field - ideally, in one of the aforementioned research areas
- Excellent programming skills in C or C++
- Good command of English (reading, writing, and speaking)
