The Department of Computer Science at North Carolina State University
(NCSU) seeks to fill a tenure track faculty position in Spatial Computing.
The Department is seeking a faculty member with a Ph.D. in computer science
or closely related field who will establish a vigorous research and
teaching program in spatial computing, which includes areas such as
location-aware mobile computing, spatial interaction and visualization, and
geospatial algorithms and data mining. He or she will have demonstrated a
commitment to interdisciplinary collaborative research with colleagues in
areas such as geosciences and analytics. While the Department anticipates
hiring faculty at the Associate Professor level, candidates at the
Assistant Professor level with exceptional research and funding records are
also encouraged to apply.
The selected candidate will join two other new faculty hired across three
departments as part of the Geospatial
Analytics<http://workthatmatters.ncsu.edu/geospatial-analytics/>initiative,
which in turn is part of the Chancellor’s Faculty
Excellence Program<http://provost.ncsu.edu/news/faculty-excellence-program-02-15-12.php>,
a cluster hire program that marks the first major initiative of the

Successful candidates will have the following: experience conducting
innovative spatial computing work in a university, private sector,
government, or non-profit organization; an established track record of
success in funded research, publication and other measures of scholarly
impact; evidence of an ability to work with interdisciplinary collaborative
teams, including collaborations across the university, private, non-profit,
government, and education sectors; and a strong capacity to teach at both
undergraduate and graduate levels, including the capacity to mentor
doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows.
