PostDoc Position Data Analysis and Visualization at ZIB in Berlin, Germany
---
Within a 3-year collaborative climate research project that aims at
improved climate predictions with quantified uncertainty (funded
by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research), a
postdoctoral position is available at ZIB.
The task is to extract deterministic and stochastic spatiotemporal features
from large-scale numerical data. Beginning with informal conceptions
of atmospheric physics, formal characterizations of features shall be
found in cooperation with climate researchers. For these, efficient and
robust algorithms shall be developed, to extract the related spatial
objects from atmospheric simulation data and to track these in time.
Effective visual mappings shall be devised and computer graphical
realizations shall be developed -- both for interactive visual analysis
(offline diagnostics) and in situ analysis (online diagnostics).
We are searching for a highly motivated researcher with a Ph.D in
computer science, mathematics or physics, and very good programming
skills, as well as knowledge in the area of data analysis and/or visualization.
The job responsibilities include research in close collaboration with experts
in atmospheric physics, numerical mathematicians, and computer science
(parallel and distributed programming).
Above-average salary (salary scale: TV-L E14, 100%)
Start: as early as posible
