Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the

*17th SICC INTERNATIONAL TUTORIAL WORKSHOP “TOPICS IN NONLINEAR
DYNAMICS” *

titled “*Nonlinear Dynamics in Optics: Present and New Perspectives”
(NDOPP22). *

The tutorial workshop will take place on *July 20th 2022 in hybrid form
(online and in-person in Florence at the Galileo Galilei Institute for
Theoretical Physics)*.

This interdisciplinary workshop will be strategically held at the closing
of the 6th IEEE Workshop on Complexity in Engineering (COMPENG 2022),
sponsored by our society, which will take place on July 18-20 in the same
location (deadline for abstract submission: May 31, 2022; for more
information on COMPENG 2022 please visit

*NDOPP22 AIM AND SCOPE*

The workshop is the 17th of a series of tutorial workshops annually
organized to explore the emergence of new research fields in which
modeling, analysis and control of nonlinear and complex systems play a role
of growing importance. These workshops have been traditionally devoted to
an interdisciplinary audience with particular attention to PhD students and
young researchers. The theme of this year is “Nonlinear Dynamics in
Optics: Present and New Perspectives”. Optical systems have always been a
fertile field for nonlinear dynamics, historically initiated with the
Lorenz system, born to investigate hydrodynamic instabilities but formally
equivalent to lasers equations. If, on the one hand, nonlinear dynamics in
optics has been mainly focused on semiconductor lasers, on the other hand
we have seen a growing interest in nonlinear optical media such as optical
fibers, liquid crystals and liquid crystal light valves, and photonic
crystals for investigation of optical patter formation.

The purpose of the workshop is to highlight current trends of research and
future perspectives in this field. The program includes three plenary
lectures, followed by a round table and a social event.

*INVITED SPEAKERS*

Gian Luca Lippi, Université Côte d'Azur, Nice, France

Francesco Marino, INO-CNR, Florence, Italy

Cristina Masoller, Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain
