About The Special Issue
============================================
Dear Colleagues,

Nowadays, biometric systems applied in Cloud contexts is consolidating as a safe, ubiquitous and advanced user oriented service protection paradigm. Given this wide nature, these solutions are considered very suitable for application in Smart Cities environment. The main objective of Smart Cities is improving the daily life of the citizens. This can be done by providing ad hoc and user centered services, from customized advertising to urban traffic live information and pedestrian security. In order to provide such services, it is important to gather and analyse the most of data available in the environment, by designing ad-hoc cloud solutions, such to offer information about the three factors that may serve as basis for specific services: user, context and actions. User informations can be obtained by recognizing a subject by means of his/her discriminative biometric data, and also by studying the citizens’ habits. Actions informations can be obtained by analyzing the movement of the subject and his/her relationships with the surrounding environment and/or other users. Finally, the context gives insights about the meaning of the actions which may be verticalized within an environment or a relationship. This issue aims at gathering works which proposes biometric systems and solution for Smart Cities of enhancements in technologies for gathering, analyzing and protecting user and environmental data.

Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form <https://susy.mdpi.com/user/manuscripts/upload/?journal=smartcities>. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors <https://www.mdpi.com/journal/smartcities/instructions> page. Smart Cities <https://www.mdpi.com/journal/smartcities/> is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.
