*Participant’s Invitation for Bio+Med+Vis Spring, *
the first Spring School on BioMedical Visualization

Online event, May 17 - 21, 2021

Motivation and Concept

Following the paradigm of many education activities moving online over the
past year, we are starting an initiative across institutions for an
educational Bio+Med+Vis platform. The purpose is to build a growing
curriculum that will bridge the domains of biological, medical, and
biomedical visualization. Study materials from diverse fields in biomedical
visualization will be collected at different levels of detail and with
varying required preliminary knowledge. As a starting point, we are
organizing Bio+Med+Vis Spring, a Spring school, which will offer a set of
talks on various visualization subjects from prestigious and established
biomedical visualization researchers, addressing different life sciences
domains. Bio+Med+Vis Spring is a unique opportunity for students to meet
experts from all facets of our field.

Bio+Med+Vis Spring Format

   -

A one-week spring school, which will offer a set of talks on selected
topics, practical tutorials, and clinical/industrial/mentoring talks.
   -

The talks will be presented “live” at the event, followed by a live Q&A
session. Live talks will also be recorded and made available in the
   educational platform after the event.
   -

Selected topics will focus on basic theoretical and on specific
application aspects, preselected by the organizational committee.

Who is the target audience?

The spring school is primarily aimed at M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in
Computer Science (but not limited to these), who want to learn more about
the principles and challenges in visualization, targeting Life Sciences
applications.

What do we expect from the participants?

No preliminary knowledge of biomedical visualization is necessary. The
majority of the talks do not require any prerequisites. The first
Bio+Med+Vis Spring will be free of charge, including access to the
educational platform, where all materials will be available after the end
of the spring school week. Regarding course credits, participants from
different institutions might have different requirements, which would be
very difficult for us to unify. Therefore, we leave it up to the
discretion of the mentor/supervisor to determine appropriate credit levels,
if any. We will provide participation certificates on demand.
