ViDE: Visualization for Domain Experts
(a special session of VDA 2021, which is part of Electronic Imaging 2021)
***********************************************************************************

Many visualization software packages and toolkits have been developed over the years providing direct access to a multitude of different visualization approaches. However, applying those directly to an application domain can still be challenging, as these toolkits often require considerable expertise in the visualization domain. Also, many of these packages may still be in a prototype state and thus not fully ready for a production environment. This special session of VDA 2021 (Visualization and Data Analysis, https://www.imaging.org/site/IST/IST/Conferences/EI/EI_2021/Conference/C_VDA.aspx) is designed to discuss the needs for applicability in different application domains. Specifically, discrepancies between visualization tools and these needs from an application domain perspective will be explored. This session will build on previous workshops, such as the NII Shonan Meeting 145 (https://shonan.nii.ac.jp/seminars/145/), summarized and elaborated a paper (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0097849320300078), and the VisGap 2020 workshop (https://visgap.gitlab.io/visgap20/).
