*Mixed Reality and Accessibility* *Workshop* at ISMAR 2019, Beijing, China,
October 14th, 2019

*Call for Papers:*

Mixed Reality (MR) holds great potential for accessibility, for example,
facilitating daily tasks (e.g., reading, shopping, navigation, etc.), as
well as creating MR environments to support training and rehabilitation for
people with different needs and disabilities. Despite its potential, as a
new form of technology with hardware and software limitations, MR itself
could pose unique challenges to people with disabilities, involving
technical, privacy, ethical, and accessibility concerns. As MR products and
research prototypes are increasingly being designed to address
accessibility issues, it is time to discuss opportunities and challenges
for MR applications for people with disabilities, as well as to derive
accessibility standards for MR technology itself.

The aim of this workshop is to establish a community for discussing the
design and development of MR technology in the context of accessibility. We
will focus on three major topics: (1) MR application design for
accessibility; (2) challenges of MR in the context of accessibility
(technical, privacy, ethical, etc.); and (3) accessibility of general MR
technology. We welcome researchers, designers, and practitioners who work
on MR technology and accessibility related areas. Those who are currently
not in this field but interested in these research topics are also welcomed
to participate. The workshop will last one day, including a paper
presentation session, a demo and poster session, a panel in which people
with disabilities describe their experiences with MR, and a group activity
session with presentations.

*Submissions:*

We accept three types of submissions: (1) a research paper; (2) a demo or
poster description: including a system description and space requirements
for a demo, or a research description and a poster draft for a poster; or
(3) a position statement, including the researcher’s original research and
his/her interest and experience in the workshop topic. A submission should
be no longer than four pages in ISMAR paper format. References will not
count towards the page limit. Submissions will be selected by the
organizers based on originality and relevance to the scope and goal of the
workshop. Accepted submissions (except for position statements) will be
published in the ISMAR 2019 adjunct proceedings and IEEE Xplore. All
accepted submissions will be posted on the workshop website (

beforehand. At least one author of each accepted submission must attend the
workshop.
