Call for Papers - VGTC cfp at vgtc.org
Tue Aug 15 22:46:42 CEST 2017

IEEE VIS 2017 is the premier forum for advances in visualization. The
event-packed week, October 1-6, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona, brings together
researchers and practitioners from academia, government, and industry to
explore their shared interests in tools, techniques, and technology.

IEEE VGTC VPG Doctoral Dissertation Award
====================
Nomination submission deadline: August 15, 2017 (TODAY)

IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee (VGTC) sponsors the
annual Best Doctoral Dissertation Award program to recognize outstanding
academic research and development in visualization and visual analytics.
The dissertations must address a topic relevant to visualization or visual
analytics. The competition will be administered by the IEEE Visualization
Pioneers Group (VPG) under the auspices of IEEE VGTC. The IEEE VGTC VPG
Doctoral Dissertation Award is presented annually at the IEEE VPG Reception
held at the IEEE VIS conference.

Meetups
====================
Submission deadline: August 15, 2017 (TODAY)

Do you want to meet people who share the same interests with you, discuss a
topic that you care about or that brings the visualization community
forward, or share viewpoints and experiences to foster community building?
If yes, don’t wait, and submit a meetup proposal! Meetups are an excellent
forum to discuss a wide range of topics related to visualization. Be it to
share your knowledge in an informal setting, to discuss methods and trends
in visualization research, to provide information about the VIS
organisation, or to plan a social event, the possibilities are yours to
imagine! Meetups are public and open forum to everyone (the meetup
organizers need to register at the conference).

VISKids Child Care Grants
============
Submission deadline: August 22, 2017

The VIS conference is excited to support our VISKids and young families!
Grants of up to $500 per family are available for VIS attendees who are
bringing small children to the conference or who incur extra expenses in
leaving their children at home. If requests exceed available funding, or if
additional funding becomes available, preference will be given to students
and early career attendees who are presenting at the conference.

BioVis Challenges Workshop
====================
The rapidly expanding field of biology creates enormous challenges for data
visualization techniques that enable researchers to gain insight from their
large and highly complex data sets. BioVis Challenges Workshop is a
half-day event organised in conjunction with IEEE VIS 2017 and focuses on a
state-of-the-art biological challenge that requires a concerted effort from
researchers in visualisation and biology to be addressed effectively. The
event will be kicked-off with a keynote from a biology expert where
challenges in a particular domain are presented followed by hands-on
activity on these challenges by groups of visualisation researchers and
domain scientists. The output of the workshop will be a list of
well-characterized visualization challenges within the problem domain, and
the organizers, together with the participants, will externalize these
challenges in the form of a report or publication following the event.
