Call for Papers - VGTC cfp at vgtc.org
Fri Apr 14 00:40:06 CEST 2017

IEEE VIS 2017 is the premier forum for advances in visualization. The
event-packed week, October 1-6, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona, brings together
researchers and practitioners from academia, government, and industry to
explore their shared interests in tools, techniques, and technology.

Tutorials

===============

Submission deadline: April 24, 2017 - **Note the new deadline**

Tutorials are intended to cover a wide selection of topics related to
visualization and provide background on techniques, tools and application
domains relevant for visualization. Submissions consist of a three-page
outline of your proposed tutorial.

VAHC 2017 (8th Workshop on Visual Analytics in Healthcare)

===============

Submission deadline: May 1, 2017

The VAHC workshop brings together medical experts, leading scientists, and
visionaries to discuss visualization techniques that can be applied to
healthcare data and discuss the areas of healthcare that need more
attention from the visualization and visual data mining communities. The
workshop will allow participants to showcase their ongoing work on visual
analytics of healthcare-related data through podium, posters, or demo
presentations as well as to learn more about emerging techniques, software
applications, and datasets.

Doctoral Colloquium
===============
Submission deadline: May 15, 2017

The doctoral colloquium is a forum for PhD Students to present their
proposed dissertation work and receive feedback from leading senior
visualization researchers. We invite contributions from the visual
analytics, information visualization, and scientific visualization student
communities. The call is open to all PhD students, regardless of whether
they are presenting research work at the main conference. Preference will
be given to students who are in the process of formulating their
dissertation topic or who have just formulated a dissertation topic.

Student Volunteers - T-shirt design

===============

Submission deadline: June 15, 2017

Back for the third year, Student Volunteers can design the T-Shirt they
will receive at the conference! In order to participate in the contest, you
need to be eligible to be a Student Volunteer at VIS this year and submit a
T-Shirt design before the June 15 deadline. The winner will automatically
be selected to be a Student Volunteer on top of being acknowledged for
designing the T-Shirt.

Posters

===============

Submission deadline: June 16, 2017

The poster program offers a timely venue to present and discuss new
visualization research through a forum that encourages graphical
presentation, demonstration and active engagement with IEEE VIS
participants. Submissions consist of a two-page summary of your work.
Interactive poster sessions will provide a forum for presenting your work
and discussing new ideas with your peers. Live demos and videos are
encouraged. Posters will be displayed throughout IEEE VIS and the summary
will be published in the electronic conference proceedings (USB memory
stick distributed to conference attendants). One presenter per poster will
be eligible for the reduced conference rate for authors.

VAST Challenge 2017

================

Submission deadline: July 16, 2017 at 11:59 pm Pacific Daylight Time

The Visual Analytics Science and Technology (VAST) Challenge is an annual
contest with the goal of advancing the field of visual analytics through
competition. The VAST Challenge is designed to help researchers understand
how their software would be used in a novel analytic task and determine if
their data transformations, visualizations, and interactions would be
beneficial for particular analytic tasks. VAST Challenge problems provide
researchers with realistic data sets and questions for evaluating their
software, as well as an opportunity to advance the field by solving more
complex problems. This year’s Challenge offers three diverse
mini-challenges and a grand challenge that concern a sad state of affairs
in a nature preserve, threats to flora and fauna, and the quest of a local
graduate student to find the explanations.

VISAP 2017 (The IEEE VIS Arts Program)

===============

Submission deadline: June 23, 2017

The IEEE VIS 2017 Arts Program, or VISAP’17, showcases innovative artwork
and research that explores the exciting and increasingly prominent
intersections between art, design, and visualization. Through a dedicated
papers track and an exhibition that runs concurrently with the IEEE VIS
2017 conference, the Arts Program aims to foster new thinking, discussion,
and collaboration between artists, designers, technologists, visualization
scientists, and others working at the intersection of these fields.
Selected artworks and design submissions will be installed in an exhibition
setting that is open to the general public as well as to VIS attendees. All
accepted submissions will be featured in the VISAP’17 Exhibition Catalog,
and selected entries will be featured in a special section within an issue
of Leonardo, the Journal of the International Society of the Arts, Sciences
and Technology. All accepted papers will be published in the IEEE Xplore
digital library. Additionally, selected authors will be invited to prepare
a revised, longer version of their papers for submission to IEEE Computer
Graphics & Applications.
