to the LREC 2014 VisLR Workshop:

"Visualization as added value in the development, use and evaluation of
Language Resources"

CALL FOR PAPERS:
================

VisLR aims at bringing together people from visual analytics and
computational linguistics to discuss the potentials and the challenges
related to visualizing language data and in particular language resources.
Linguistics has a long tradition of visually representing language
patterns, from tree representations in syntax to spectograms in phonetics.
However, the large amounts and ever-increasing complexity of today's
resources call for new ways of visually encoding a multitude of abstract
information on language in order to assure and enhance the quality and
usability of these language resources.

We invite submissions on research demonstrating the development, use and
evaluation of visualization techniqes for language resources. This includes
work applying existing visualization techniques to language resources as
well as research on new visualization techniques that are specifically
targeted to the needs of language resources. Particular concern is given to
papers aiming at the interoperability of the described visualization
techniques.


Topics include, but are not limited to:
-----------------------------------------------------
    Innovative visualization techniques for language data, in particular
language resources.
    Challenges for visualizing different types of data, in particular
spoken and signed language data.
    Resource validation and enhancement using visualization.
    Interactive visualizations as interfaces.
    Interactive visualizations for (facilitating) the understanding and
tuning of algorithms operating on language resources.
    New infrastructures for language data visualization; visualization
components.
    Evaluation of visualization techniques.
    Strategies and issues for open distribution.

Papers must describe original (completed or in progress) and unpublished
work. We invite short papers (4 pages) and long papers (8 pages). When
submitting a paper from the START page, authors will be asked to provide
essential information about resources (in a broad sense, i.e. also
technologies, standards, evaluation kits, etc.) that have been used for the
work described in the paper or are a new result of your research. Moreover,
ELRA encourages all LREC authors to share the described LRs (data, tools,
services, etc.), to enable their reuse, replicability of experiments,
including evaluation ones, etc.
