Call for papers
Workshop on Visual Computing for Social and Cognitive Robots
Apr 15, 2015
Tsinghua University, Beijing, China
(in conjunction with Computational Visual Media Conference)

Social and cognitive robots will play a considerable role in the 21st century. The major challenge in dealing with these kinds of robots is in making them perceive and learn from the visual information received through their sensors and respond in human-like fashion using multimodal sensors and actuators. They should also have higher level cognitive functions that involve reasoning, for example, about goals, perception, actions, and the mental states of the users. To achieve this complex task of visual perception and learning, Visual Attention<http://link.springer.com/search?dc.title=Visual+Attention&facet-content-type=ReferenceWorkEntry&sortOrder=relevance> models should also be developed. A visual attention model enables the social robot to choose the right segment of visual information allowing behaving adequately.

We are seeking full papers with the following topics, but which are not limited to:
- Gesture recognition
- Face expression recognition
- Action recognition and representation
- Brain Mapping and Integrated Computational Model
- Awareness and autonomy for Social Robots
- Enhanced Visual Memory
- Visual Attention Models
- Perceptual based Visual Signal Processing
- Visual Search, Understanding and Recognition
- Tracking and sensing
- User studies and evaluation
- Perception, presence, and cognition
- Navigation for robots
- Multiparty dialogs with robots
- Affective computing for social robots
- Decision making for social robots
- Personality in social robots
- Expressive behavior generation for robots
- Vision-based locomotion
- Learning through vision
- Gaze modelling
- Cooperation between humans and social robots

Papers will be selected for publication in the Visual Computer (Springer) and the Journal of Computational Visual Media (A new launched journal by IEEE and Tsinghua University Press from 2015).
