Dear moderator,

Can you please post the following update (publication of selected workshop papers
in the International Journal of Uncertainty Quantification) to the IEEE Vis mailing
list?  Thank you.

CFP: Working with Uncertainty Workshop at IEEE VisWeek 2011

UPDATE: Select papers will be invited to be submitted as full papers in the
	 International Journal of Uncertainty Quantification (see below)

Working with Uncertainty Workshop
=================================

Date:		October 24, 2011
Location:	Providence, RI
Website:	http://www.sci.utah.edu/uncertainty2011/

Tools, techniques and methodologies are needed in every facet of dealing with uncertainty from
representation, quantification, propagation, and visualization. The domain of expertise and
applications that have a stake in addressing uncertainty is not limited to the visualization
community. This workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners from different fields
who have a strong interest for the proper treatment of uncertainty. It will provide a venue for
describing and identifying open problems, current best practices, and discussions on challenges
and long term directions.

We are looking for contributions related to all aspects of working with uncertainty.
Suggested topics are intentionally broad to solicit contributions from various communities
and expertise. Examples include, but are not limited to:

    * Representation of uncertainty
    * Uncertainty quantification
    * How uncertainty is propagated
    * Reasoning about uncertainty
    * Uncertainty visualization
    * Perceptual and cognitive issues related to uncertainty
    * Risk communication
    * Decision making under uncertainty
    * Applications involving uncertainty

Submissions can be about:

    * Methods and techniques about how to handle uncertainty at different stages,
	or across multiple stages.
    * Description of systems that incorporate uncertainty.
    * Application problems and/or interesting research problems that require
	attention from the community.
   * Experiences with working with uncertainty, road blocks that one may encounter,
	lessons learned from different domains/problems.

The submissions must be original research. However, they may include work in progress
and preliminary results. Submitted papers and posters will be evaluated by their relevance
to the workshop focus, novelty and scientific merit.

Important Dates:
Papers and Posters Due:	Sep 2, 2011
Notification:		Sep 16, 2011
Final Papers Due:	Sep 30, 2011

Please check the workshop website for information on submission procedures and updates.
And please forward this email on to other parties you feel may be interested.

Approximately 8 papers among the workshop submissions will be invited to submit a full
paper version to be reviewed and published as a special issue in the International Journal
of Uncertainty Quantification. Full length papers are usually around 20 single column pages
(roughly equivalent to 8-10 pages using TVCG format). Non-print materials such as animations,
additional images, interactive demos, etc. are also welcome and can be included as part of the
non-print publication.
