Dear recipients of the GOETE newsletter,

It is our pleasure to invite you to the international conference

‘Youth and Educational Disadvantage: The Governance of Educational
  Trajectories in Europe’

*/Frankfurt am Main, Germany, March 21^st , 2013/*

During the meeting the research results of the EU-funded project
‘/Governance of Educational Trajectories in Europe’/ (GOETE) will be
presented and discussed. At the centre of attention is a dialogue
between research, practice and policy on the topic.

    The Topic and Context

In recent years education has received a great deal of attention on the
part of researchers, policymakers and the general public; in particular
focussed on the competencies that children and young people acquire over
time in the education system. But how actually do educational
trajectories take shape? Or more precisely: which decisions lie at the
basis of the individual educational trajectories of children and young
people, who makes these decisions, on what basis, and under what
conditions? This International Conference is a unique occasion aimed at
addressing these questions.

    The GOETE Research Project

GOETE was carried out in collaboration with 14 international partners
<http://www.goete.eu/partners> in eight European countries (Germany,
Finland, France, UK, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, and Slovenia). The
project focused on questions
<http://www.goete.eu/project/key-perspectives> around ‘/access’/ to
education, the means through which pupils ‘/cope’/ with the demands of
the education system, and the ‘/relevance’/ of education for their
future lives and for society. The conference presenters will explore the
relationships between school and out-of-school agencies, as well as the
educational biographies of students and the institutional regulation of
education.
