Genetic causes and physiological consequences of natural variation in leaf complexity (Project leader: Miltos Tsiantis, Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research Cologne)
Synthetic leaf-like structures to study differentiation and developmental trajectories/programs (Project leaders: Andreas Weber / Matias Zurbriggen, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf)
Synthetic biology reconstruction and optogenetics approach towards a quantitative analysis of plant signalling networks (Project leader: Matias Zurbriggen, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf)
Towards a synthetic leaf - vasculature pattern (Project leaders: Markus Pauly / Oliver Ebenhöh, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf)

In CEPLAS researchers investigate in an interdisciplinary approach the characteristics and mechanisms of complex plant traits and their impact on plant performance and adaptation. This knowledge builds a foundation for sustainable cultivation of food, feed and energy crops. CEPLAS is a joint venture of the Universities of Cologne and Düsseldorf, the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research and the Forschungszentrum Jülich.
