Subject: Bioinformatic Positions at NIAB/EMR and TGAC
There are two available positions at NIAB EMR and TGAC.
Please see details below and pass this on to anyone who might be interested in these:
Job 1- NIAB EMR (East Malling, Kent)
Bioinformatician / Population Geneticist
We are seeking an innovative, motivated and enthusiastic individual to
contribute population genetics and bioinformatics analysis to
multidisciplinary research into plant- pathogen interactions, primarily
using the polyploid crop Fragaria x ananassa as a research system.
The appointee will join the Genetics and Crop Improvement Programme; one
of three research programmes within NIAB-EMR. In the programme there is
a strong emphasis on using statistical genomics approaches to understand
the genetic basis of complex traits and functional genomics approaches
to understand the regulation of genes important in plant improvement,
including host disease resistance. The successful applicant will work
across multiple BBSRC funded projects to elucidate the genetic basis of
disease resistance in the first instance to the oomycete pathogens
Phytophthora cactorum and Phytophthora fragariae in the octopoloid
strawberry Fragaria x ananassa. (Salary- £27,099 to £37,810 with salary
dependent on experience and relevant qualifications. Closing 3rd June
2016)

Job 2- TGAC (Norwich Research Park)
Scientific Programmer or Bioinformatician
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Scientific Programmer or
Bioinformatician with a passion for analytical thinking, who wants to
tackle the challenging octoploid strawberry genome. The production of a
high quality reference, and its associated analysis methods using
additional references to encompass the full extent of genome variation
in cultivated strawberry, is a problem requiring strong data analysis
and programming skills as well as bioinformatics and NGS knowledge, both
on assembly and variation analysis.
We especially encourage applications from fast-learners who have an
exceptional talent comprising part of this skillset and feel motivated
to learn the complementary skills. Relevant skills include:
Bioinformatics/NGS analysis, scripting, C++ programming, statistics,
graph theory, de-bruijn graphs and sequencing technologies knowledge.
(Salary- £30,500 to £37,500 depending on skills and experience. Closing
25th May 2016)
