Dear colleagues,
The 4th <https://ci947.infusionsoft.com/app/linkClick/27469/5a813a03fd9f9d15/3572171/7c7c0bb6d712690d> Plant Genomics Congress meeting series has attracted about 1,500 plant scientists from around the world and has been widely praised for the quality of the speakers and the rigour of the research presented.
However, science does not stand still and no matter how successful a meeting is, it must keep up with new developments. With that in mind, I wanted to draw your attention to the expanded and new sessions at this year's congress which will cover gene editing, the plant & soil microbiome and research by the next generation of plant scientists.
Gene Editing
This transformative technology has excited plant researchers world-wide because it has given them the ability to rapidly alter developmentally significant traits in a range of important crops. Improved agricultural properties such as resource use efficiency or disease resistance, and improvements in the harvested product, such as nutritional content, storage performance, or processing properties for both food and non-food uses are among the burgeoning areas of new research.
Presenters include:
Peter Beetham, President & Chief Executive Officer, Cibus
Wendy Harwood, Senior Scientist, Department of Crop Genetics, John Innes Centre, Norwich, UK
Plant & Soil Microbiome
The excitement of human microbiome research must be infectious because it has now transferred to the study of plant health. Research into creating microbial environments that will positively impact on a broad range of plant functions while also reducing the need to rely on chemical compounds are beginning to appear and, in some case, are being translated into real world applications.
Presenters include:
Zoe McKiness, Director of Trait Design and Sciences, Monsanto, USA
Simona Radutoiu, Associate Professor, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, Denmark
Young Investigators
An expanded set of flash presentations will enable you to hear first-hand about the original research being led by the next generation of plant scientists.
Presenters include young scientists from the:
Sophien Kamoun Group, The Sainsbury Laboratory
Jerome Salse Group, INRA, France
Ute Paszowki Group, University of Cambridge
