<p class="MsoNormal">and Computational Sciences Directorate at the Oak Ridge National

<p class="MsoNormal">Laboratory (ORNL) seeks to hire a Computer Scientist within the
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Scientific Computing Group to serve as a Visualization Liaison to users
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">of the OLCF computing resources. With the continuing advances in data
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">acquisition and simulation techniques, increasingly large 3D data sets
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">have to be processed and interactively displayed for real-time visual
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">exploration. The emphasis of the open position in this context is on
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">the efficient scalable out-of-core and parallel visual data processing
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">of very large spatial and volumetric data sets.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Major Duties/Responsibilities:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The successful candidate will directly interact with several external
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">collaborators and data-set providers, including industrial and academic
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">institutions. This requires interest not only in graphics related
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">algorithms and data structures but also in the task and data complexity
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">of the targeted application, and collaboration with domain scientists
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">and other institutions. The work of the Visualization Liaison will
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">often build on other and previously developed techniques, so a strong
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">interest in learning new programming frameworks and 3rd-party code is
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">necessary, in addition to established skills in numerical methods and
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">applied mathematics.<o:p></o:p></p>
