As temperatures soar across Europe, and laptops roar in dismay, why not give yours a rest with a light scroll through our newsletter, perhaps with a glass of something cool for yourself? The coming months bring a range of opportunities in the field of digital editing and annotation. For our part, we are pleased to announce that the Annotating Literature mentors Marina Kirillova and Ilea Rahn will be presenting a poster at the conference “Weltliteratur im Medienwandel”, taking place in Mainz, Germany, from September 15 to 18, 2026 (see the call for papers here). The conference aims to bring together discourses on world literature and literature in its media contexts. The Annotating Literature team will discuss collaborative digital annotation as an opportunity for teaching comparative literature. Do come and see Marina and Ilea if you attend!
The conference aims to highlight methodological problems and failed approaches in the Digital Humanities as a productive part of research, providing a space where uncertainties and difficulties can be openly discussed and reflected on. The call for proposals of non-traditional contributions such as lightning talks, mini-workshops, or experimental formats is open until July 12.

Proposals are invited for the workshop “Einsatz von KI in den historisch arbeitenden Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften”, taking place in Regensburg, Germany, from November 5 to 6, 2026 (deadline July 31). The aim of the workshop is for researchers who have already taken their first steps with generative AI tools in projects within the historical humanities and social sciences to present their methods and, where applicable, their (preliminary) results for discussion. See the full call here.
The next DHd Annual Conference is taking place in Marburg, Germany, from March 1 to 5, 2027. The conference theme is “Mind the Gap! Knowledge, Uncertainty, and Responsibility”, with “gaps” – whether missing metadata, gaps in knowledge, or infrastructural inequalities – understood not solely as deficits, but also as productive spaces for interpretation and critique. DHd 2027 invites participants to discuss these areas of tension together and to develop perspectives on responsible, reflective, and sustainable digital knowledge production. The call for proposals of presentations, panels, posters, and workshops is open until August 1, 2026.
The theme of the conference is “Sprache und Literatur”, with the aim of exploring phenomena of literary language from the perspective of linguistic questions and methods. The focus of the methods fair is practical and centres on resources, methods, and tools, ideally demonstrated through short application studies. Futures of Digitised Historical Media Collections for Research and Teaching”, taking place in Lausanne, Switzerland, from January 28 to 29, 2027, is open until 30 September, 2026. The organisers invite submissions of original research, experimental methods, reusable resources (e.g. datasets, models, teaching materials) but also critical reflections and desiderata. Contributions from scholars who do not themselves work computationally but whose work can constructively critique, inspire, and inform the further advancement of data-driven approaches to the study of historical media are explicitly welcomed. The two-year project eManuSkript led by Anna Dorofeeva (University of Göttingen) is finished, and the resulting apps are now available online. The aim of this collaborative project, funded by the Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre, was to create a suite of tools suitable for teaching and learning digital palaeography and codicology as applied to Western Latin manuscripts. The four multi-use apps come with supporting information packages, as well as a large searchable bibliography. All code and text is available on GitHub; it will also be archived in Zenodo and other repositories in the coming months.
