DIGITAL LITERARY ANNOTATION NEWSLETTER NO. 82 (JULY 2023)

TEASYS – NEWS
We are still in the middle of a heatwave and are all searching for the
perfect shade to find shelter from the sun. But is there such a thing
as “imperfect shade”? And can it also exist at night? Shakespeare
certainly was of the opinion that imperfect shade can exist at night
and can even be seen by sightless eyes. However, what is this “fair
imperfect shade” in Shakespeare’s “Sonnet 43” and what does it mean?
The annotation[1] in line 11 will give you some ideas on what to make
of it.

The Annotated Web Edition Directory[2] is looking forward to your
suggestions. We are always on the look-out for new entries to add to
the list. Feel free to recommend literary digital editions that
include explanatory annotation (of the social or the editorial kind),
web platforms, tools and applications that enable the user to
(collaboratively) annotate texts. Please use the corresponding form on
our webpage. We thank you for your help.

RECENT PUBLICATIONS
Sabine Bartsch, Evelyn Gius, Marcus Müller, Andrea Rapp, and Thomas
Weitin have published their joint article “Sinn und Segment. Wie die
digitale Analysepraxis unsere Begriffe schärft“ in volume 8 of the
/Zeitschrift für digitale Geisteswissenschaften/ It is now available
digitally here[13]. Their aim is to reflect on how digital analysis
can develop the definitions of linguistics and literary studies. For
this purpose, they use text segmentation as exemplary method on which
reading as well as computational text processing can be based.
